![]() But I find that this minor adjustment goes a long way for the viability of both subclasses. And I of course keep the ability to choose a few spells outside of these schools still. Three schools also just feels less restrictive than two, so I tacked them on rather than replacing less useful schools from each. Find familiar and Fog Cloud are both excellent first level options, Unseen Servant seems like reasonably good trap bait, Tenser’s floating disk to carry treasure Web would be an excellent 2nd level option, and when you start getting into more summonable creature spells, you’re giving the rogue accomplices and new melee Allie’s for helping you gain sneak attack. Likewise to how Eldritch Knights want a lot of transmutation spells, I find that conjuration has quite a bit of spells that a Rogue would ideally want to take. In my games I make these subclasses each have three schools instead of two: Eldritch Knights get evocation, abjuration, and transmutation, while Arcane Tricksters get enchantment, illusion, and conjuration. Really transmutation is easily the school that overall benefits martials the most, as that’s where all the buffs are at. That said, evocation doesn’t supplement what a fighter does at all, it acts as an alternative which isn’t desirable.
